My first 1/1 military vehicle
My first... out of French surplus, in 1977. Don't have any history but when I stripped out the seats for painting, I found a few live 9mm rounds in a few drain holes in the bed. I bought it from a War Surplus yard called Supreme Surplus in Edison, NJ and drove it home with no problem at all. The dealer always had military trucks of all sizes except Jeeps. The dealer was a cranky old guy who always said "Comparing a Jeep to a old Dodge was like comparing Sh*t to ice cream". He was well known in the mv hobby and had a big sign in the front of his yard that said "No Jeeps, don't even ask". The yard in now a line of fast food stores, He had some great buys, especially in the 7 1/2 ton trucks. He carried everything from 3/4 Dodges up to 10 ton trucks.
The canvas top was rotted to pieces but the 4 canvas winter doors were in place in the trunk. Never had a problem and my boys loved it. In compound low that truck would walk up a wall.

This is one of my favorite vehicles. It looks like it was almost new.

The CC had been well taken care of by the French. Whenever they replaced or repaired a major part, they attached little metal signs with the date and repair yard, mostly in Algeria. I never had a problem, even with the tires, they were old but not rotted. Like I said, this was my first military vehicle and I just cranked her up and drove it home with no problems. Of course, I was a dope for not even checking fluids before hoping in and driving it home. At least I had the Wifey follow me in my station wagon (remember station wagons?).
It was the first and best of over a dozen MV's I've owned and the most fun to drive, even to the supermarket.

Mine was a 64, but I couldn't take it home. The Army frowned on that but I had more fun with mine without worrying about damage.
That's me in 64 Korea near the DMZ.
