FOA Nashorn Empty FOA Nashorn

Post by Germanbilly! Sun Aug 10, 2014 3:46 pm

This was the Crown Jewel of my collection and builds. This was a challange to build as I was the first one to start on the project and found some very major problems with the kit. I would point them out to FOA and would be told that it could not be wrong until I showed pictures of the problems. It was always you must have put it together wrong. Well after enough pictures they started to believe me. Now I think all the people have received the proper parts. I enjoyed building it and it now has a very nice home in a new unit.

It told a little over a year for the complete build. Did not seem that long but just looked up the complete build and it was.

I remember watching the build of this. I was always marveling at how you would correct things as the build went along. I'd have pulled out what little hair I have left if I was doing that build! You did a magnificent job on that build. I also liked the Crew that Eduardo did for you.

When Bill decided to sell many of his 1/6 motor pool I could not resist ....

I first posted some images as it had arrived, and then painted over the tank, adding some shading, my usual dirt color, some dry brushing and some bits and pieces, mainly inside. So here are my two posts of Bill's Nashorn:

FIRST POST

German Billy’s Nashorn, Niall’s Crew and my new Ernst cold weather crew

I could not resist German Billy’s Nashorn.
Only using it as a background piece right now as I have had no time to do some repairs to the rear of the gun and the fighting compartment.

I put together a new Ernst crew for the Nashorn and since I still had Niall’s crew, which is also colder weather types, decided to pose them together with the Nashorn.
You will notice that my new Ernst crew uses the same HS as the “regular”crew which was posted by me before sending Bill the crew and later posted by him with the Nashorn. All the same except the loader.
This is an earlier time frame and the loader was a different soldier.

Left to right: Ernst’s Radio Operator, Niall’s Radio Operator, Ernst’s Gunner, Niall’s Gunner, Ernst’s Loader, Niall’s Commander, Commander Ernst, Niall’s Driver, Niall’s Loader and Ernst’s Driver.

Here is Niall’s Crew:

My new colder weather Ernst crew, it was still quite cold some days im May in the Eastern Front!

Finally, a couple of images of the Nashorn, all by itself!

Here a couple of Bill’s round cases with Tim Bowman’s Pak 43/41 rounds. Massive!

SECOND POST

“Büffel” Nashorn and Crew

These are, let’s call them, my SECOND, First Images of the Bill’s Nashorn that I bought in September.
Had already posted some of the images, with the Nashorn as finished by Bill, with a new crew mixed with a crew I made for Niall.
Here is the same Nashorn after some tweaking on my work bench. I added shadows, similar to how I paint my vehicles, dry-brushed the edges and dusted the whole vehicle. The dry brushing brings out all the details Bill put into this vehicle. Also repainted under the fender, using my usual mud and dirt colors. Also repainted the rubber area of the wheels. Added shading to the wheels and drybrushing to the running gear also. Added a little silver highlights to the tracks. Also added some equipment to the interior(zelts, water bottles, map cases etc).

Here the Nashorn with my Albert Ernst colder weather crew:

Here the round cases, from Bill (4) and the rest from Tim Bowman. I added shadows to these also to give them a less new appearance:

Here the original Albert Ernst crew I made for Bill:

Another set up with the same original crew:

Some more beauty shots:

Note on this angle, I did not see the piece of paper towel under the fender. I had placed this to hold a paper towel skirt when I was done painting the underside. Not the first time I see some errors in the images and not in real life. My eyesight is not very good!

That thing REALLY IS TRUELY MAGNIFICANT. Bill you reached perfection and beyond with this one, Eduardo you have made it even more so with the new paint work. As for the crew, they are a perfect fit with the gun.

Germanbilly, Egonzinc, I'd like to post your photos and comments on my FOA forum. Could I get your authorization to do so. It would be tremendously helpful for others who are building the FOA007 Nashorn.

I believe that Germanbilly actually gave me authorization long ago, but I wanted to confirm since it is a new forum to me

Cheers from Utah, Loic
