RSO Build From Roto Mold Parts Empty RSO Build From Roto Mold Parts

Post by Germanbilly! Sun Aug 10, 2014 5:27 pm

This came from several diffferent builders who wanted to make a kit, but things just went wrong and was never released. Major Midnight and Plasticpanzers were going to release it but problems came up and I ended up with pieces from both. I recast the wheels and made a bunch of other parts to make it complete. Assigned to another unit now.

That is one vehicle that I am very surprised that no manufacturer has made to date. I like RSO in any variant, but, really like the Cab version best. I hope that you still have it.

Ken, do you mean an RSO, or a vehicle like it? I would not be surprised if they captured one and the only US vehicle that comes close to it would be the M-29 and M-29C Weasel.

The M-29 Weasel was way smaller than the RSO. Germanbilly's RSO build is much taller, wider and longer than a Weasel. The Weasel was hard pressed to carry 4 men with no equipment. The RSO had generous cargo  area that could carry 6+ men with equipment and a separate cab holding 2 men.

BTW - I'm the "unit" that jumped on Billy's RSO as soon as I saw it . Simply a great build of a rarely seen piece. All I can say, is "Thanks a lot" to Billy.

Charlie, when I see you, could I see that piece? I totally agree on the size differences, but, couldn't think of any other vehicle.

We worked with Tim (Majormidnite) to do this as a full rotomold kit except for tracks
and unfortunatly the new rotomold place Rich employed to do the molds screwed them and sections of the Semovente up really well. Even another shop could not correct the molds that leaked plastic everywhere except for the cab section that came out half decent. Really wanted one of these myself and was very disapointed (read: ticked off! lol!) that the molders did such a poor job. Have moved to a new metal mold company long since. Beautiful job Bill!!!

When picking up my newly "transferred Vehicles yesterday, I got to see this up close. AMAZING is the only word that describes it! I SO wish that someone would make a kit of one.

And, Jack, you were in a understandable rush to prevent close examination GermanBilly's RSO but the interior of the RSO is as good as the exterior and the canvas top is a thing of beauty. Surely one of my favorite 1/6 models. All I can see is, thank you, Billy.

Maybe I can get down to visit again, Charlie. I will check it out closely at that time. What I did see of the RSO was awesome!

Got a heads up from Rich (who runs the rotomold part of Battleground Vehicles) that
he has the molds now for the RSO and looks at having them examined by a specialist
in mold repair to see if it will be possible to produce them. Will post more when i hear
some more on this. Maybe not til next year with the holidays coming up but it is good
news nevertheless.

Tim, I sure hope that they will find the molds fixable and that a kit will enter production soon.
